Wieliczka is a county city in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It is a headquarter of the local and county government. In 1975 - 1998, it was in the administrative territory of Cracow Voivodeship.

The town is best known for the world-unique Salt Mines, visited annually by more than 1 million people ( the data from January to November 2005 give the number of 1 000 232).
